Aid recipient: Keegan Flaugh is a longtime actor in the Denver theatre community who will next be appearing as Lord Leonard Aster in “Peter and the Star Catcher,” opening Jan. 12 at the Town Hall Arts Center. Keegan, who is from Cortez, Colorado, graduated from Poudre H
igh School and Colorado State University. Major roles have included Hanratty in the Aurora Fox’s “Catch Me if You Can”; Thomas Jefferson in “1776” and The Preacher “Bonnie and Clyde” at the Town Hall Arts Center; Nick Arnstein in Vintage’s “Funny Girl”; and many of the “Magic Moments” annual revues with his children.
His medical story: Keegan needed emergency dental surgery after he broke one of his molars biting into a slice of pizza. The Denver Actors Fund has a partnering dentist who accepts certain emergency cases referred by the Fund, primarily as his own in-kind donation. Dr Brian Kelly DDS (himself a former Broadway dancer!) performed the surgery, first attaching a temporary crown and then a permanent one.
How we have helped: Dr. Kelly’s services would have cost Keegan $1,180 out of pocket, which he could not have paid for at this time. Instead, Kelly donated all services free of charge except for $100 in outsourced lab fees, which the Denver Actors Fund has paid. Because of this unique partnership, Keegan received the essential emergency treatment he needed at no actual cost to him, and only set the Fund back $100.
A message from Keegan: “I want you to know that I’m so thankful to The Denver Actors Fund for connecting me with Dr. Kelly. He was great, as were all of his staff at the Dental Center. I don’t know what I would have done without the DAF! You’re the best.”
